About This Blog

The first post of this blog was published on August 17, 2008. The intent was and still is today to bring a further understanding of art and art history to the masses.

Without taking a whole lot of classes, reading a lot of long boring textbooks or sifting through a lot of art technical terms, everyone can enjoy and appreciate art, here at the Art Appreciation Blog.

I've found that there are lots of folks out there that recognize famous artwork, but they don't know why it is so famous? You don't have to know a lot about art to appreciate it. I can say that because I have a Bachelor's Degree in Art History.

I am extremely passionate about art and I admire all kinds from the past to the present. There has always been a need for humans to express themselves or to create, whether it's to make something special or to communicate a thought, an idea or a memory. You can tell a lot about a culture or a society, by studying the artwork that it produced at that particular time and I find this fascinating!

As you go through this blog, I hope that you feel inspired by the artwork and that you find a new reason to appreciation art, just as I do every time I blog.

:)

About Me, the Author

Why do I appreciate art so much? For one my mother, aunt and grandmother were all professional artists and they all turned me on to art at an early age.

Second, my formal education in Art History which made me realize the importance of art in our society as well as from historical context.

Third, I create my own art, you can see my work at ChristyOlsen.com
